Annie Duke
Annie Duke finished 10th in the WSOP main event in 2000. An amazing accomplishment bearing in mind that she was eight months pregnant at the time. In addition to this she has won one WSOP golden bracelet, for Omaha High-Low in 2004. She is the top female World Series of Poker money winner in history. Duke comes from a true poker family - her older brother is Howard "The Professor" Lederer. Howard taught his sister how to play the game and still functions as a mentor for her.
Born: 1965 in Concord
Now Residence: Las Angeles
Nickname: The Duchess of Poker
Playing style: Duke is a very tight player, but she can be pretty aggressive. She does best in limit games and against weaker opponents.
Favorite game: Omaha Eight-or-better
Quote: "I really prefer tournaments, which is why I was willing to move to Portland and basically give up cash games. People tend to be more pleasant during tournament play (me included) because the money at stake is not the same. No one is losing 100's of thousands of dollars--they are just losing the entry fee--so emotions and stress tend to run less high. Also, you don't have to put in the long hours you do in cash games when playing tournaments. People just tend to have more fun in the tournaments. I know I do."
Poker fans about Annie Duke: "Annie Duke is a good poker player for sure. Maybe she will be the first woman to win the World Series of Poker."

"Annie is nothing like her brother (Howard Lederer). You people must know nothing about her, and poker, if you think she is a classy player."

"She is a good poker player, but overrated. If Annie Duke was a man, she would never get the kind of attention she gets. She would actually be considered mediocre as a pro."
