Poker Tip # 7
The basis of Poker is that it is a betting game played with cards, not as many people see it, a card game which involves betting. Most other card games can be played without any betting, but not so with poker.
If poker was played without the benefit of betting, it would be natural for all players to simply never fold, since there is no penalty for playing to the end. At which time all players would simply show their hands and the best hand would win.
Following this logic related to to the ante, it would follow that were there no ante in a poker game even if you allowed betting later in the game, correct strategy would be for all players simply to wait until they had a hand sure to win, then bet. Naturally, this would cause all the other players to fold as the betting hand would be the winning hand.
By relating this logic to actual poker, as we know it, it is easy to see that correct game strategy is to a large part based on the size of the ante (or blinds) in a game. The lower the ante in relation to later bets, the more patient you need to be in order to be playing winning poker.
