The Poker Professionals Association POKER STRATEGY # 51 basic ____________________________________ "Winning versus hourly rate" Consider the following option: Would you rather play and win most of your sessions or would you prefer a good hourly earnings in the long run. Many players, even some pros, often fall prey to tallying up their wins after each session, rather than counting the total hours played per year, per month or per week and dividing it by the total money won for that period. We highly recommend you track your winnings by the longest time period you can. It will give you a more accurate account of your actual earnings and maintain your sanity when you run into losing sessions or streaks, good or bad. While on the subject of hourly wins, the popular consensus that you should win about one large bet per hour, is somewhat misleading. Despite it's popularity and general acceptance in the poker community, a win of one large bet per hour is seldom the average, even under prolonged playing periods. We find this measure of earnings, although convenient, does not take into account the many variables encountered in actual live play situations, your skill, your opponents skill, level of play, game strategy and type of game selected. Our research indicates hourly earnings rates vary from about one big bet per hour to almost two big bets per hour, provided an experienced player takes full advantage of our research strategy and tactics.
